I'm not sure about portable JAWS since I don't have it but I guess without
mirror display drivers JAWS will work but you can't use the JAWS cursor nor
can you read text in edit fields. So yes the driver would still need to be
installed, but unlike JAWS under XP and earlier you get an error message but
otherwise JAWS runs normally.

I did not know that Video Intercept issues have been removed in Vista.
Does this mean that a USB Portable version of Jaws will work on Vista
without Video Intercept having to be installed?

Have you tried to re-install the display driver anyway?
Alternatively try going back to a working drive image made before the
distortion problem ?
If neither of these work I fear that it maybe time for an engineer .
If it is out of warranty I do know a good computer repair man but he is
based in London . I know that you are in the UK but I seem to recall you
are in the Midlands somewhere?

It does sound like hardware but I would suggest re-installing the
display
driver first before sending it back.
Actually updating rather than re-installing may be the best course if
you
know the name of your graphics card perhaps from Device Manager or
Belarc
Advisor, and can go to the web site.
Unfortunately this will knock out your Video Intercept Manager with Jaws
so
a re-install here will also be necessary. I think NVDA can continue
working
irrespective of updates to a graphics driver.

I'm having a problem with my Compaq laptop running Vista Home Premium

latest updates. I've had reports of the screen looking garbled, i.e.,
displaying lines instead of actual graphics. Does anyone know if this

fixed? If so would it require sending the laptop off for repair? Because

don't have a spare machine to play with but at the same time I'd rather
get
it fixed before it doesn't work at all.
