Brilliant John
This is much better than my solution. I shall use this in future.
I knew about control alt 1 2 and 3 to apply heading styles but did not know
this.
That is 2 new commands I have learnt today . Changing line spacing and
getting Jaws to read out the clipboard.

Hi,
Control plus numrow 1 turns single spacing on, control pus numrow 2 turns
double spacing on and control plus numrow 5 turns on one and a half spacing.

In Word 2007, the options should be in the home tab, under the formatting
group. Yes right clicking the area will also work. I don't find it horrible
myself but won't ask why here.
