hello again Gerald
i found the talking clock and managed to go through as many of the
settings
as i could
some boxes had nothing in them and although it said use arrow keys nothing
happened
so i am not doing very well at the moment
i did manage to get it to speak once or twice but not any more

and it gives a selection box for chime periods and all of those are
checked

also it says i have a choice of 10 voices but i can only find 3 what
happened to the other 7?

it wont announce the time or chime when required

another thing is i set the time to 21 09 which it was when i set it and
set
the date to 23 2009 but it said august and wont let me select June
oh how i need some help here
if you are on skype maybe you could talk me through it or can you send a
step by step guide for me to follow in setting up and using the clock

one last thing for now can i get it to speak in the same way as the
computer
built in clock or does it just work on its own at the chime request
thank you

Yvonne

You should find the Talking Desktop Clock submenu on the Start menu.
Hit
Enter on Talking Desktop Clock Options to set your preferences. Once you
have it set up, hit Enter on Talking Desktop Clock to start it running.
Read the documentation that accompanied the download for more details.

You can download the Talking Desktop Clock from the JAWS Users programs
page. It's item 15 under the Utilities heading. Be sure to read the
accompanying documentation.

Yep, you certainly can set the clock to announce the time on the hour
and
half hour only. The Voices and Chimes user interfaces each have
three
check boxes: hour, half-hour, and quarter-hour, so by checking and
unchecking these boxes as desired, you can set the time and chimes to
sound only at the intervals you specify. You can launch Talking
Desktop
Clock nanually from the Start menu, create a desktop icon to launch
it
from the desktop, or create an icon in the Start-up submenu so that
it
launches automatically whenever you turn on your computer. You can
also
specify the starting and ending times during the day when you want to hear the time announcements, so that you can silence them at night if
you
wish. And you can even adjust the volume independently of the system
volume, so this little utility is highly customizable. Read the
documentation that accompanies the download for more details.

Hey, Jerald:

I was unaware of the talking clock, until I heard the mention, here.

Two questions:

1. Can the clock be set for hourly, or half-hourly anouncement? I
think
I'd find quarter-hour a bit much.

2. How do you get it going?

Many thanks,

Cliff Smales

The Talking Desktop Clock is a little utility that automatically
announces the time at quarter-hour intervals along with a selected
chime sound. This is really useful when you're in the middle of
something and you're too busy to press Insert-F12 to hear the time.
There are a number of different voices and chime sounds to choose
from,
and it is very easy to set up.
