Hi John,
If you have what's known as, "packet-writing" software,
then you can format a re-writable diskand treat it as it were a floppy disk.
In other words, you can copy, paste, and erase files and folders,
as you would with a standard floppy disk, only with more capacity.
I have used this software in the past, and had mixed results.
When I started computing years ago, this is how I used to backup my files,
but found that the backups were not reliable.
These days, flash drives, and external, or even internal hard drives are so
inexpensive, that
it is more affordable to backup your files to them, instead of re-writable
cds.
Occasionally, I will use a re-writable to test the function of a custom disk
before burning it to a cdr,
other than that, I don't have any real use for them, and only keep about 4
or 5 of them on hand.

Hi John,
I would opt for another backup media.
A re-writable cd or dvd would not make a reliable backup.
If you left the disk open, you would have to burn another session, and
more than likely,
you would just end up with another batch of files.
You would be better off with a flash drive, or external hard drive, and a
replicator program to
backup only the changes to your files.

I was wondering if you back your data on a rewritable cd and then back
up the same info again with changes does it only save the changes or puts
another group of files with a different date with the same data in them?
