At the moment there are three main popular applications blind people are using to access Twitter, aside from the Websites. TWInbox is an add-on that interfaces with Microsoft Outlook. If you use Outlook and always keep it open, you may well find this program to your liking. Another very popular applicaiton is McTwit, which was written from the ground up with accessibility in mind. In addition, though they are not necessary for the full functionality of the program, there are some very excellently-written scripts for both JAWS and Window-Eyes which add to the convenience of this program's use.
The third application, which is my application of choice, is Qwitter. Its interface is based on the old Jawter scripts. So if you use Jawter, you might want to give Qwitter a serious look because it offers virtually all of the benefits of Jawter without the screen-reader lag associated with the scripts going out and looking for new tweets. It also works with multiple screen readers and even as a self-voicing application with SAPI speech if one prefers. The nice thing about the qwitter interface is that it is global. It doesn't appear in the alt+tabbing order, so it's out of the way, but you can use its keystrokes from within any application, you don't have to switch in and out of any windows to make full use of it. All of these solutions are excellent. Qwitter is my solution of choice, but I don't think any of these solutions is universally better than any of the others, it's a matter of which solution one prefers. bruce On Wed, 22 Jul 2009 08:41:50 -0500, "Desiree Sturdevant" <[email protected]> said: > Hi there: > I really like jawter, I have tried several others but this is my fave. > You > can find it at http://randylaptop.com/software/jawter-2/ > Of course you can only use it if you are a jaws user.
