Hi,
See below. This was taken from Microsoft. I think
that this will explain why you cannot create the floppy disk.
Hope this helps.

SYMPTOMS
The Automated System Recovery (ASR) feature
enables users to create a set of floppy disks
that can be used to automate the process of recovering a failed
system.
When you attempt to use the ASR Wizard on Windows
XP Home Edition, you may receive the following error message:
Backup Utility
The files for recovery diskette could not be
created. The operation was cancelled.
If you receive this message, you may be unable to
create a backup set with ASR.

CAUSE
This behavior can occur because ASR is not
supported in Windows XP Home Edition. However,
Windows XP Home Edition users can access the ASR Wizard if they
install the Ntbackup program from the Valueadd
folder on the Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM.

RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, access the Automated System Restore Wizard:
list of 5 items
1. Install Backup Utility for Windows on the
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM. Follow
these steps to install Backup Utility for Windows:

1. Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file in the
following location on the Windows XP Home Edition
CD:CD-ROM Drive:\Valueadd\MSFT\Ntbackup
2. When the installation wizard is complete, click Finish.

2. Click Start and, then click All Programs.
3. Point to Accessories, point to System Tools
and then click Backup on the All Programs menu.
4. Click the Advanced Mode link on the first
screen of the Backup and Restore Wizard.
5. On the Backup Utility dialog box, click the
Automated System Recovery Wizard button.

NOTE: ASR does not function and is not supported on Windows XP Home edition.
The ASR Wizard may create the floppy disks and a
backup file (Backup.bkf). The floppy disks,
however, cannot start the ASR process in Windows XP Home Edition
if they are used after a catastrophic system failure.
For catastrophic malfunctions that result in the
need for total data recovery, you must use the
following steps for the recovery process (which assumes
that a full backup had been performed a short
period of time prior to the equipment failure and subsequent data loss):
list of 3 items
1. Manually reinstall Windows XP from the installation media.
2. Install Ntbackp from the Valueadd folder of
the Windows XP installation CD-ROM.
3. Use Ntbackup to restore the data by using the
backup set that had been created prior to the system failure.

You must go into the advance node to create a
full system backup. See the information below from Microsoft.
How to back up files and folders by using the Backup utility

CD-ROM, follow these steps to create a backup of your files and folders.
In order to back up files and folders, you must
be logged on to the computer as an administrator
or with a user that is part of the Administrators group.

Note The following steps explain how to create a
backup manually by using the Backup Utility. You
can also create a backup by using the Backup and Restore
Wizard. However, the steps will be slightly
different from those that are listed in the following section.

1. Start the Backup utility and select the files
and folders that you want to back up.

Hi list,
It's AC. I have two questions about the above programs.
1. I can't create a full system backup of my HP Pavilian laptop using the
Windows backup utility. I can do a backup of my documents and settings as
well as choose what folders/files I want to backup with no problem using
my external hard drive. However, when I tried to do a full system backup
it wouldn't create the recovery disk and aborted the backup process.
My external floppy drive is being recognized as well as my external hard
drive. Does this mean there is possibly an issue with the Windows Backup
Utility software? If so, what should I try?
2. I am thinking about doing a full system backup using Karen's
Replicater. Is this possible? I don't see a way to restore your files
mentioned in the help documentation. I haven't read it all the way
through just yet. It seems to be for just backing up specific folders and
files and not a full system backup program. Am I wrong? If so, how could
I do a full system backup using this program?
Thanks in advance.
AC
