It's similar to DOS, but the commands are different, so either way there's
a learning curve.

Google is your friend at this point. To be able to run a graphical
environment, your going to need more memory than you would just running
a command line only distribution, and i'm afraid that there's quite a
steap learning curve when switching to linux, for example, drives aren't
labled the same, in most distributions, if you want to switch to your
primary partition on your hard drive which contains the OS, you would
type cd /dev/sda1 into a terminal and press enter. of course it's much
easier from a desktop environment, but administering the system means
you'll need to do some work in the command line to get orca to work with
the applications, or else you'll have to use the command line to do most
admministration tasks.

Vinux is very cool! Wait a few days. An update to 2.0 will be
released early this week. You will need to download a large ISO file,
which is an image of a CD. Then you must burn it to a CD. You can
run the operating system from the live CD or install it to your hard
drive or an USB thumb drive. Of course, it will work much better once
installed to your hard drive.

Hi,
JAWS will not work what so ever in linux, as it is a windows
application. Some linux distributions come pre-packaged with a
screen reader called Orca. One distribution like this is called
Vinux. It is a distribution based on another distribution called
Debian, and includes the orca screen reader, as well as other
accessibility features. You can download it from,
www.vinux.org.uk
Hope this isn't too confusing,
Aiden
