Thanks for all the suggestions. I was advised to go to control Panel and turn off User Accounts in the user account applet. I have now been able to install all the necessary applications and the lady can have her laptop back tomorrow.
After a evening travelling through the slow and laborious Vista I am so massively glad that I took the decision to have Vista taken off my Desktop and have XP Pro put on when I bought it 18 months ago. It cost me an extra £112 but it was the best money I ever spent. Thanks again for all the help.
