I am sorry that you are having this problem but glad it is not just me! I was getting a very similar annoying problem except that the problem was not always restricted just to Google. The longer the PC was on the more likely the problem was to emerge and like you a reboot solved the problem for a while. 1. In my case firefox seems to work for longer than IE and I found switching after IE grinds to a halt works at least for a while. 2. Getting rid of AVG Internet security recently and replacing it with ESET smart security appears to have helped a lot in the last 2 weeks. I will have to monitor this. 3. also in the last couple of weeks I have been using the Google advanced search as my default Google search. This may also have improved matters. Basically it seems better now but whether this is related to the ESET install or using Google advance search I am not sure. The problem may not have gone entirely but certainly seems not as bad.
