Why not look at using the portable version of the NVDA screen reader? This can run off a normal USB pen. NVDA is free and unlike Jaws does not use Video intercept drivers. This means it can work straight off the pen on any windows machine with XP, or later, without needing to install any software. If there are PCs where you are going this could be a solution.
The keystrokes are 95% compatible with Jaws and a autorun.inf file can be downloaded and put on your pen which will put NVDA as the first option of a autorun dialogue box. In other words pressing enter is normally all you have to do to start NVDA.
