Ok sure. The port for the SMTP is 465 or 587, SSL should be enabled, and
the server requires authentication. You can look at these settings at
the bottom of the accounts tree in account management.

Hi. I made those changes and I could receive messages but not send them, so
do you have the settings for the SMTP server? Thanks

Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] thunderbird3 and gmail?
The automatic setup works, but you need to make two changes before
creating the account. So, click on the edit button and change the following:
1. The server type should be pop not imap.
2. The port should be 995 not 993.
Once set click the create account button.
Hope this helps.

HI. I am happily using thunderbird 2 on my desktop and decided I would
try
thunderbird 3 on my laptop. I tried to set up my gmail account with no
success. It would receive messages but it wouldn't send them. Does anyone
know how to set it up? Is there anyway to bypass the automatic setup that
doesn't seem to work? I am currently using outlook on my laptop and may
well stick to it.
Thanks
