So really not that different, my netbook came with xp preinstalled so I just
nuked my harddrive (also to get rid of all the additional stuff that comes
with it like startcenter, trial versions of antivirus software, etc) and
then put windows 7 on.

Windows 7 Starter is quite good actually. You can't create homegroups, 
nor can you change the wallpaper or the background. You can't change 
themes either. Or can you; I'm not sure grins.
