I've also done this with a normal old tape player where I used a stereo RCA cable to plug it into my one laptops actual line in, due to most microphone jacks only supporting one channel, and I then recorded it using audacity, and used one or two of audacity's effects to clear up the sound of the really old tape I was recording.

I've also done this with a few audio books on casette to be able to keep backups of them, etc. etc.

Stay well

Hello, I just downloaded Gold Wave a few minutes ago.
I noticed some tutorials on the Blind computer users web site.
I will give it a try next week.
Thanks,
Steve

Do you have Gold Wave?
You can use Gold Wave to record Cassettes to MP3s.
Someone will be able to explain how to do this better than I can.

I'm also interested in this information. If within the guidelines, please
send it to the list. Else, cc me on it as well. Thanks in advance.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] converting audio cassettes to MP 3

Hello, I have several audio cassettes that I would like to convert to MP
3.

First, I am by no means "a computer whiz".

I have a cassette player with an earphone jack, and a cable that can be
hooked up between this and the microphone jack on my computer.

Is this all the hardware I need? And if so, what accessible software do I
need?

If some one can help, please contact me off list at

[email protected]

Thanks

Steve
