Sorry I have only just seen this post. 

The question about converting password protected PDF documents  depends on
the level of protection in the PDF documents. The crucial issue is whether
the PDF is set up with rights to print the document. If print permission is
enabled then this conversion method should  work. If print document is
disabled it will not. The easy way to check is to see if you can print the
document. If you can then you should be able to select the Microsoft
document Writer and you will be away.
