Generally, the difference between software, and the data files made use of therewith is somewhat similar to something that when you throw away an old, used up pen, the stuff you wrote therewith will still be on the piece of paper.

Like donald said, generally customised templates etc. would be stored in user settings folders, and thus wouldn't necessarily be uninstalled along with software either, but anyway...

Stay well

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Installing Office 2007 Re: Office 2007 andDocuments Created with Office 2000

Hi All,

When I talked to my tech this afternoon to ask about all those .tmp files in My Documents, I understood him to say that I should go to the Control Panel and uninstall Office 2000 before installing the downloaded version of Office
Home and Student 2007 that I have. I don't have any reason to doubt him,
but, if I do uninstall Office 2000 first, I don't understand how the Word
2000 documents I created will remain. Could someone provide a fairly
non-technical explanation? His office is closed for the day.

Thank you,

Margaret

Office 2007 allows you to save documents as Word 97-2003. These are for
Word documents at least, and it should be possible with Excel
spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations. When you open an earlier
version of an office document, the word '[compatibility mode]' will be
displayed beside the document's name. This just means that any features
you wish to use that are only available in the 2007 system will not be
available until you convert to the 2007 equivalent format. Hope this helps.

Good Afternoon,

I'm getting closer to installing
Office Home and Student 2007, but was wondering what will happen to the
documents I created with Office 2000 and sending 2007 documents to folks
with Office 2000 and 2003?

I think I saw somewhere that there's an add on or something at Microsoft's
site to help with the 2003 situation, but how about Office 2000?

Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.
