No. a acute is a different symbol than a tilda. If you have the US 
international keyboard layout set to type a tilda press left alt and type 
0227 on the numpad, then release alt and there it is. BTW, a acute is 
alt+0225 so you can compare these now.

It's referred to as "a acute" and "A acute."  I'm not sure that's the
solution though because it seems to me that the "a" with a tilde may be
different from á, etc.
