[Blind-Computing] external Mp3 player question

Hello Listers,
I have an external mp3 player.  It is one of those that plugs in via USB and 
uses the computer to charge it self  How ever I can not transfer songs on to 
it.  Usually once you plug in the computer is supposed to see it as another 
drive.  Is this not the case?  Should I wait until it finishes charging?  I am 
running XP pro and jaws 9.
