The general way of connecting external drives nowadays is via USB cable, and that means the computer accesses/works on them a bit slower than internally mounted drives, so, yes, this is to be expected, and therefore, while it will still take a bit longer to copy large amounts of files onto an external drive after unzipping them on an internal drive it might still be a bit faster than unzipping them first locally and then copying them over, but really depends on the number/size of the relevant files.

This is partially all due to data access via USB being slower than IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics), which is what generally gets made use of for internal drives.

Stay well

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Unzipping Folders

Using the 7 Zip program, it normally takes about 30 seconds to unzip a folder which is saved on the C Drive of my computer. I am now starting to put some stuff onto an external hard drive, and I am finding it takes anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes to unzip folders there. Is this normal for an external hard drive, or, am I doing something wrong? The external hard drive that I am using is
called "Passport".

Thanks,
Donnie
