you need to put in;
start address,
end address;

also, you then choose,
in the combo box,
by car, public transit, walking.
now, search button.

The accessible Google home page lists no maps choice.  Searching Google maps

Just click on the maps link on the Google home page.  You can then specify
starting and ending destinations, and Google will provide directions by car,
public transportation and walking.
