Hi,

I guess you are using XP, if so, here is what to do, I hope i don't commit any mistakes as i am using windows seven now, hopefully someone else will confirm and/or correct me:

1. Open your start menu and locate your "my computer".

2. Press your application key and down arrow til you hear send to subMenu and open it with enter or right arrow.

3. I guess you will land on an option that reads "deskTop create an icon" or something similar. If it is not the first item in the subMenu, arrow up or down til you reach it and hit enter on it.

4. Go back to your deskTop and find the icon there. Be careful, the new icon might not be named "my computer", you might find it with some words added to the beginning: for example, you might find it named: "icon of my computer" or "shortCut of my computer".

If the above steps work, you can even assign a hotKey to your "my computer" icon so that you can open it with one keyStroke. If you need help doing that later, just let us know.

I hope that helps, and sorry for any mistakes as i don't have XP here and please forgive any errors in the translation i used to have a French version of XP not an english one.

All the best

1. Go to my computer icon on the desktop.
2. Press alt+enter for properties.
3. Press ctrl+tab to land on computer name tab.
4. Tab to the change button and press space.
5. In the computer name field enter the new computer's name and press enter.
6. Tab to ok and press space.
7. You may be asked to restart. Confirm and it's done.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Changing computer name

HI All;

I recently inherited a computer and I need to change the computer name,
along with a ton of other stuff! Would someone please provide me the steps to change the computer name? It is an XPSP3 Pro Operating system and I have Jaws10 latest installed, finally. All help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much. Take care.
Mike
