That part about it wanting you to hit del key to then enter BIOS at startup
is something we sometimes used to get in old days after a power surge etc.,
where the motherboard had lost settings etc., so it is a bit strange, and
don't think it would really be related to the file issues.
Generally it would want you to sort of confirm the BIOS settings relating to
hard drives, etc. and save them as such and then that part of it would
revert to normal, but haven't worked on hardware like that in quite a while,
so maybe you could just at least try looking for the keystroke to save the
settings after it enters the BIOS as such, and that might solve that part of
the problem.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Computer won't start
Hi All;
I am running XPSP3 Pro & Jaws 10 on this machine. After assigning Notepad
to open .txt files and Outlook Express to open .eml files some strange
things happened. First, when I tried to open an .eml file, when I would
press enter it would take me back to my Inbox. I thought after making
these
changes I had better reboot and that is where it really got strange. I
gave
the computer the commands to restart and it wouldn't, then I did a hard
shutdown, and when the computer shuts down there is a ticking sound coming
from the computer, like a clock ticking. When I try to start it up a
screen
comes up showing the computer specs and a message to " press DEL to enter
SETUP ." This doesn't do anything. I plugged in a USB mouse so my wife
could possibly click on " DEL " but, the mouse doesn't seem to work
either.
I tried to start it in safe mode and it comes up with the same screen that
gives all the computer specs like what kind of RAM, processor speed, and
things like that. Oh, and that message to "press DEL to enterSETUP ".
Does
anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get Windows started? All help
will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.
Mike
