Don't know if this helps, but it looks like you have to do the following:
1. Unlock the computer by pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
2. Type in the logon information of the last logged in user (in this case your user name).
3. Click OK.
4. The dialog will disappear and press CTRL+ALT+DELETE again and you will log in normally.

when I shut computer down at the close of use for a long period of time,when I attempt to start it up again I get a dialog box stating this computer is locked and I need to enter user name:

I know my user name but I don't know the password or if there has ever been one. the only way I can get the computer to start is to reboot it by disconnecting power cord from electrical outlet. for a short time. when I reconnect the power cord to electrical outlet the computer will start in usual way any help will be much obliged.I am using windows XP SP
