Hi,
It looks llike it could be hardware issues. Not that it is old as such,
but the demands of the new software are incompatible with the hardware
specs of her machine, We are looking at hardware like the PC RAM, the
processor and hard drive space and of course the display.
RAM may be too low for her programs like JAWS which uses a lot of
resources to run; so it should be at least 512MB. However, more RAM will
help speed up handling of applications. The same is true with her
processor -- the speed which the machine processes its tasks. The higher
the cycles per second, the better. So let's say something in the region
of 1.4GHZ or faster will do.
However, software may contribute if there are programs that are running
in the background. The more startup programs one may have, the more your
processor works to manage it. So she may want to kill some background
apps that may be slowing down things. msconfig will show you which ones
are these. Or you may quickly take stock of your ram and processor jobs
by opening the Windows Task Manager and CTRL-tab to "Processes". Here
you will see a column showing you the names of running processes and
their threads alongside the percentage each one of them is consuming at
a time.
Hope this helps a bit.
