hi Alan
thank you for reply.
unfortunately i have not gained a lot from the reply
i have been told that such a response message is part of outlook express although i have never found it in outlook express there are 2 people that i am going to ask but won't hold out much hope but you never know.
you heard the term " you only have to ask me"
that's exactly what i will do.
i will ask everyone in person as well as the lists i subscribe to
and someone somewhere should be able to at least point me in the right direction. sobs law states that everything happens at least once in a lifetime so i will continue to prove that wrong.

Yvonne,

I'm not sure if there are external programs that do this but
back prior to retiring, I used Outlook at the office on an
exchange server and an option under tools or actions was the
out of office assistant. You could customize your message
and control how it was sent out. I just looked on my home
version of outlook and don't see that option. Another thing
you may want to check out is many groups that I'm currently
part of greatly frown on auto responders and some have this
as grounds to be excluded from the list. Hope this helps.

Al

Subject: [Blind-Computing] auto response

hi
i noticed this when i was sighted but never took a lot of
notice of it or what it does or what it was really used for.
and of course it was not as widely used then as it is today
i am referring to the auto response message that goes to a
person sending an email when a person is unavailable to deal
with it for some reason
for example 1 of these is used when a person is away from
the office and is worded something like this
" i am currently out of the office until 1st October.
does anyone know where i can get one of these auto response
message boards and how much they are and of course is there
a charge to use them?
thank you
Yvonne
