I don't believe this information you are being told is accurate. Windows and modern computers from apple are using the same hardware architecture of Windows machines. That is, they are using similar motherboards, processors, and hard drives. To prove such a fact you will have to test identical or as close to identical laptops to see if one operating system is running hardware harder than another OS. What you are hearing is comparable to someone saying a Toyota runs better than a Honda. This doesn't tell you much but if you say that a Toyota Carrola runs better than a Honda accord then you can have a better discussion. You will also have a very different discussion if the owner of the Toyota is a teenager as compared to the owner of the Honda which is a 70 year old woman. Each person uses their computer very differently and paradoxically very similarly.
