does this mean formatting the hard drive?
and what about all the programs and things i have here on xp.
or do i just uninstall windows xp and insert the cd and run the disc?
a step guide would help

Hi Yvonne.
You can use an upgrade disk to install Windows 7. However as you are on XP you will have to do a clean install. In other words, there is no in-place upgrade from XP to Windows 7. This goes for any version of XP to any version of Windows 7. Also, if you wish to install Windows 7 64 bit, a clean install is required regardless of operating system (unless that is also 64 bit) as you cannot install or run a 64 bit program on a 32 bit operating system.
