Its because they are sighted and most likely rely on the preview pane lots more than we do so disabling it is not an option. Andre, Yes, you are correct - I've seen many reports on the net about people having this intermittent problem with Windows Explorer hanging. Except for Maria's post, however, not one of these referenced the fix that she recommended (which, by the way, seems to be working very well for me for now). Also, you are incorrect about the Windows 7 search dialog not being a problem. Since items returned in the search field generally want to be opened by Explorer or one of its components, I usually could not open search results for files or applications when I was experiencing this problem. Yes, I think we all realize that Windows is fraught with many quirks and bugs, many systems act differently than others, etc. but I thank Maria for her recommendations since it seems to have rectified the severe problems I have been having recently. --Pete From: "Andre Williams" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Windows Explorer Keeps Hanging This is a temporary fix. The problem is still there. Your Windows Explorer will not crash as much but it will still crash especially on 64 bit systems. Run a Google search and you will see for yourself. The only reason it doesn't crash as much after this fix, which was by the way provided by someone named Ryan on the W7Starters list months ago is because most of you are running basic searches and because these crashes are random. Please understand this as many on these list seem to have issues with basic comprehension and continue perpetuating false information as they think reading these fixes on these lists makes it law. These crashes will still happen. You only believe this problem is fixed because of the random nature. For whatever reason these explorer crashes do not happen if you use the start menu search. There's probably a quicker way to do this, but when I did this my problem was solved.
