The last time I had a computer behave like that I had to remove Internet
Explorer and reinstall it. No amount of spyware scanning and resetting
of IE settings would fix it.

Niamh, if u put a gun to my head & asked me to tell u what's up, I'd
say u have spyware of a very serious nature.

Let's do this:
1) Go to:
www.malwarebytes.org
& download the file. Set it up, run it, (u might have to do some
screenreader cursoring around to access it). Check everything it
finds. It should also save a log file--send that to me & let me have a
look.

U may well need sighted assistance for this, as a safe mode start may
be necessary, & if this gets complex, I am going to ask for some
compensation for my services, please understand, but let's take this 1
step at a time & see where we end up.
