Hi John;

Thank you for your response but, I did find the problem. I plugged in a
Cassette Tape to Pc recorder today & by doing so it installed, this, USB
Audio CODEC,
in Sounds & Audio Devices properties / Audio tab, Sound playback default
device, list with my default sound card. With this, USB Audio CODEC
highlighted none of the sound schemes would work & unless I unplugged the
recorder I couldn't get my default sound card to work, for the sounds only
but, Jaws worked just fine. I need to play around with this recorder some
more to see just how it works. Again, thanks for your response & take care.
Mike

  Did you try rebooting your computer, some times that does the trick..
  We truly don't know what's in a book,
  Until it's opened!
