Depends on how you divide up the world, but Arduino seems to be in your
hemisphere, not necessarily closer to you though. *GRIN* The official
boards are made in Italy, and, for some reason their domain is registered
as dot cc, which is the Cocos or Keeling islands, a territory of
Australia.
Looks like the IDE is java based, but the FAQ says you can interact with
it via command line, and can program in C or C++ if so desired.
I'm getting more interested the more I read. Sadly, I have a job that
insists I pay, at least some attention to it, for like 8 hours a day. How
rude.
