Your system book keeping is impressive, and your data point is a good one.
However, I have never had avast on either of my computers, and on my
Windows 7 machine, the first JAWS installation was the latest build of
JAWS 11, so the video intercept is the latest version. and, I have the
latest version of MSE running on that box.
I just checked on my XP box, and the video intercept is up to date.
Sadly, your fix of removing avast and updating the video intercept is not
going to fix my problem since I don't have avast, and have the latest
video intercept.
