Hi Niam,
On models that connect more than 2 computers, yes,there are usually buttons
on the switch itself.
Since you are connecting only 2 computers, the switch Mike spoke of will do
a nice job,
it's the same one I started out with some years ago.

I believe you may be talking about a KVM switch.
(keyboard, video, mouse) KVM switches come in many varieties, so you will
have to give more details on what your current needs for one are.
These switches can be used to connect as few as 2 computers, and as many
as several hundred computers to one keyboard, video, and mouse.
You can purchase KVM's in stores like Best Buy, and other computer stores
as well as on-line.
I've used several over the years, and for my current setup, I prefer a
switch with individual buttons for switching from one computer to
another,
but many come with the option to use hotkeys from the keyboard.
