Many web sites my own included run scripts on a person's system when they log in to view them. Mine runs a JAVA script to check your system clock and a pearl script to update the hit counter. The point is this is not an uncommon problem to run it to on the net.
The thing is you need to be aware of sites that might wish to run any nefarious things, for example hacker web pages ETC.
