Your question brings up a load of questions, Kenny.
What exactly do you mean by a "voice controlled " computer?
Although some computer programs promise to be able to allow the user to
perform certain functions by using the spoken word, The reality is,
unfortunately, nowhere near what the designers promise. Some success has
been achieved by the use of programs like Dragon Naturally Speaking but
even there, there are limitations, confusion and serious frustration. The
days of computers which respond directly to the spoken word are coming but
they're not here, yet.

You seem to be of the opinion that blind people need a "voice activated
computer" in order to function. In a recent survey, 99.18% of the blind
use standard computers which have been equipped with screen readers. I
agree with you that to a novice, most screen readers are cumbersome and
difficult to learn. But the world makes no promise of fairness or equality
to the blind. At worst, we are tolerated. At best, you may find many types
of adaptive equipment which will help you as a blind person. If you can be
more specific as to what you are trying to accomplish, there are many people
on this list with vast experience and knowledge that they are willing to
share. Please provide specific questions so that we can give you specific
responses.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] new to blind computing and searching

hello, i am brand new to this type of group and to the whole subject of
blind computing. when i started searching for computers for the blind i was
surprised because I thought I would find a lot of great voice activated
computers that would make it easy... all i see so far are some clunky screen
readers....

can someone tell me what the best voice controlled computer for the blind
is?

thanks
