Cliff, I don't think that was what Yvonne was asking, I think she wants to know how to set the option so that the deleted items folder is emptied when she exits Outlook Express. I'm using w7, so don't have o.e. to check how to do this. Cheers Alex

If you go to "internet options", you should find the option for advising you as to how many unread messages you have. You have to tab over to your list of folders, with "in box" being your target folder. It will, then, give you a message such as: "In Box, 39 unread". Hope this helps.
