Hi Kimsan,
I had a similar issue on one of my Win7 machines, and after exhausting my
resources,
I ended up recovering the machine.
Everything is working fine now, service pack 1 even slid in with no
complaints.
HTH,
Rick Justice

Hi,
Ok, this is getting redonkulous...
I have downloaded and installed the readiness tool that was recommended via
google and another kind lister on this list.
It is not working, I cannot install any updates. To all the technical
computer gurus here what do you think the issue is? Here's the message
again...
Some updates were not installed
Restore hidden updates Failed: 1 update 1 important update selected
Updates: frequently asked Review important updates Try again
Error(s) found:
Code 800B0100 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.
Trust me... I have gone in circles on this and it kept bringing me back to
the readiness tool which did not do squat...
If someone could help and possibly fix this issue I would be so greatful.

Thank you...

StartMenu

Hi Again Larry,

I did find out how to get Microsoft Update into the start menu, from Rick &
the Jaws-Users list. Below are his steps.

Hi Mike,
Here is one way to do what you are wanting:
1. Use the link below to go to the Microsoft Update site:

http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us

2. Once there, open the file menu, and arrow to, send, and hit enter.
3. In the resulting sub-menu, select shortcut to desktop, and hit enter.
The resulting shortcut is named, Microsoft Update, but you can rename it to,
Windows Update.
4. Now you have a shortcut, that you can move to the start menu.
HTH,
Rick Justice

Thanks again for your input. Take care.
Mike

Do you have Microsoft Update? That is what Windows Update is called now on
  XP.
