Ed, do you have a mixer of some sort. If you did, this would solve your
problem. You can get a Berrenger for around 50 or 60 dollars. That might
be the way to go, considering you're wanting to listen to multiple audio
sources at the same time. That would also eliminate the need to plug and
unplug your devices.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Audio Challenges
Hello all:
I have a real challenge, and I am thinking that someone on this list may
have an idea as to a solution.
Frequently, I will have telephone conversations with a client while
reviewing a document on screen. So, I have the screen reader talking to
me through my headset. I also use the microphone on my headset to dictate
to my computer using Naturally Speaking.
At present, my office phone is inaccessible. So, I propose to use my
iPhone.
The computer in use has two Jacks: a microphone jack and an audio jack.
The iPhone, by contrast, uses a single jack.
I am wondering how I can use a single headset with a microphone that will
allow me simultaneously to listen to my iPhone and listen to my computer
and then, alternatively, talk either to the person at the other end of the
line on the telephone or talk to my computer.
Surely I am not the only person with this problem.
I have tried to explain this situation to Radio Shack Personnel. They are
completely stumped.
In fact, they have told me such a configuration is impossible. Indeed, my
searches on the Internet have proved futile. Just trying to find an
adapter to allow a combination microphone/audio jack to interface with
separate microphone and audio jacks has proved challenging.
Thanks.
I. Edward Marquette
