My question is then, how did you read the
note to be able to reply :). Do you have a
buddy, neighbor or other sightling that could
help walk you through? You can also set the
default sound card Jaws uses by doing the following:
1. Insert key J
2. U for utilities
3. O for sound card
At that point you'll have to know which, if you
have more than one card, is the one you want to
use. For instance I have a $30 Logitech USB
headset and I know "l" is the default letter to
hit. So if I had to, and I have had to a time or
two, did the above and then hit "l" for Logitech
I will say there's been times with the USB
headset, I've had to unplug and replug it in to
re-initiate the firmware in it. Though that
hasn't happened in a while now. Being left
withotu speech is zero fun, hope this helps.

Some things to try:
1. Chords. Sounds too simple but it never hurts
to ask :), Have you checked the chords on your
headset or speakers to make sure nothing got unplugged or even half unplugged?
2. Mute: Do you have a mute button on your
keyboard's multi-media section or headset line
volume that might have gotten pressed? Or perhaps
just the volume turned down to the lowest setting
there? This has happened to me on the line volume of my headset once.
3. Had you tried an alternative headset or
speakers to see if your's just didn't give up the ghost?
4. I haven't used XP in a little bit but had you
checked your Volume control properties/settings
to see the card you intended to use is still set
to correct volumes and setting? Some computers
have in-board sound cards plus an actual sound
card installed, it'd be good to check there to
see all is set correct to use the one you wish and volumes are up and all.
5. USB. Are you using a USB headset? If so, try
using something else in that slot to make sure it
works. It could be a connection inside the case
came loose on that panel of USB's.
6. You can check your device manager to see your
sound card did not get disabled somehow. Perhaps
along with the updates an updated driver was
installed and didn't agree. I believe you can
roll back just the driver in device manager. But
I'd not do that unless you see it disabled and cannot enable it manually.
7. You could try rolling back your computer to
prior to the updates. , if the update for some
reason had an issue, which I'd think an Office
update really wouldn't but in any case, a roll
back would let you know, you can always undo the
roll back. I'd create a restore point prior to
that just to make sure you have a place to go
back to the way it is right now. It ought do one
on it's own but I always set one manually anyway to be sure.
Hope this is of some help.

winamp and then I re started my pc and now
there is no sound coming up. I hear no windows

get my sounds back? I am running jaws 12

booting was stop the book and re boot the pc. I
have tried shutting it down using the power
button and the power bar and each time I re
started it I don't hear the windows start up

away or anything it is just sitting there and I
can't even get narrator to open or nvda. The
