Call it a day, but leave the computer on for a while.  Since it is a new
computer and a new Windows installation, there are probably several
background processes that will settle down after a while running idle. 
For instance, it might be building the index file of everything on your
hard drive to make search quicker.  However, most of these processes
pause while the user is attempting to do something. 

If leaving it running a while undisturbed and then rebooting does not
help, you may need new audio drivers from the manufacturer.  This is
especially true if using a 64 bit edition of Windows 7.
