Hi Gerald and Rick,

I am using MSE on my XP Desktop and window7 laptop and my wife uses it on her XP laptop.

On my two computers, I usually run just the quick scan whenever the system tray indicates that the computer is potentially unprotected. Once scanned, I can go without another scan for quite a while before my computers are potentially unprotected. I rarely run the full scan since it takes 2 to 3 hours on my desktop. I have never ran a full scan on my laptop.

Now my wife laptop is another question. She is constantly getting the message that her computer is potentially unprotected and she often runs the full scan. The only thing that I can think of is that she has a tremendous amount of emails and is on the Internet more often than me.

Who knows? Go figure.

Take care.

Lennie

I don't think so. The message seems to imply that I have not performed any scan, full or otherwise, in a while. I'm waiting till my regularly scheduled 11:00AM quick scan today to see whether this message goes away after the scan is finished.

Hi Gerald,
Perhaps it's prompting you to run a full scan.
Just a thought.
I haven't encountered this situation, since I run a full scan every time.

Happy Lincoln's Birthday, listers. I have been using Microsoft Security
Essentials on my XP Pro machine for over two years. This morning, when I
checked my System Tray, the MSE icon read "Computer Potentially
Unprotected". So I checked the MSE Home tab using the JAWS cursor and
noticed a message claiming that I had not run a scan in a while and hence my
computer might be at risk. But scrolling down to the bottom of the page,
there was another message confirming that a quick scan had indeed been
performed yesterday at about 11:00AM, as it is every day, because I have MSE
set to perform a quick scan on a daily basis. Any idea why MSE would issue
a message that I haven't performed a scan in a while, when, in fact, I
performed a scan yesterday? This doesn't make any sense. My malware
definitions are up to date according to the information on the Update tab.
Thanks for any feedback.

Gerald
