Hi Brad, When it comes to security software, the end user can't prove that the software is doing what is says it does, you just have to trust that it is. So, with that in mind, why pay for something that you are not sure of. I have been using MSE since it came out on all of my systems, and it hasn't reported a problem yet, so according to it, my systems are clean of viruses and malware, and I can live with that. I'm certainly not going to spend the time trying other programs to prove it wrong or right, since I have these machines to work for me, not me for them. In the end, I guess it really comes down to a person's paranoia, and internet and e-mail habits. No one program out there will catch everything in the wild, and loading one's computer with security software isn't a guarantee that it won't become infected. I have been using computers for about 11 years, and only been infected twice, both of which I caused myself. My position is, install an anti-virus, and anti-spyware solution, keep it updated, run a full system scan on a regular basis, be mindful of your e-mail, and don't wander aimlessly on the internet, stick with reputable websites. I am considering the same thing. My concern is MSE's effectiveness as McAffy. Is MSE as effective in anyone's opinion. I think the old attage, you get what you pay for is creeping in.
