I was successful in rolling the IE 9 back to IE 8 on the new laptop that came with IE 9. When I went through the list of installed updates it had some from as far back as July of 2011 so I kept looking and found the Internet Explorer 9 update and uninstalled it. Sure enough IE 8 was there! I also followed the instructions to prevent it from coming back. Now I will just wait and see if it works and then go back to the automatic updates. I also spent quite a while playing around with the NVDA screen reader but it does not use the same navigation keys as Jaws so I haven't been able to use it yet. Will have listen to the podcasts about it. It might come in handy for those web sites that have the links that aren't regular links any more.

Hi Sherrie

this way it will never bother you again
u can set back automatic updates again after done

go to windows updates tab to installed updates
open it
and arro down to find IE9
if u find it there press application key
and uninstall it
that will rollback Ie8

IE9 works different than IE8. I am not sure how the new methods work
with older versions of JAWS. Instead of a dialog that pops up for
things like security, or approving an add-on, or a file download, it
displays the message of the dialog and the buttons for it's options in
the Information bar. This bar is above the top of the page in the frame
of IE. I hear it is displayed in yellow. Pressing Alt + n will move
focus to the Information bar. This is a Windows shortcut, so it will
still work using other screen readers or older versions of JAWS.
Usually, the buttons can be reached after going to the Information bar
by pressing Tab. If the button says "split", hitting Enter on it will
take that option, other options can be seen by using the Down Arrow. I
do not know how older versions of JAWS treats or handles these buttons.

An example of why IE 8 works better with Jaws 11, at least is a page
called thefriendmail.com which I recently set up to give me an easy
way to handle Facebook. When setting it up it took me to the page on
my Facebook where it asked for permission. On IE 9 there was no link
that said Allow. In fact, after much tedious searching I could not
even find the word in the proper place to attempt to click it. On IE
8, however, the link for Allow preceeded the information about the
friend mail.
I would really like to know if this link shows up on IE 9 with Jaws
13. If Jaws 13 is really an improvement in handling the Internet I
might have to bite the bullet and upgrade although the $$ is not
really in my budget. I did not upgrade previously since none of the
new features was anything that seemed necessary to me.
It seems that every time i get a new computer I have to add in the
cost of a double jump in Jaws versions. Makes that sale on my Dell so
not worth it, especially as I took the 3 year policy on it as well.
Live and learn, I guess.

I still would like to know how to keep IE 9 from constantly
re-installing on my former laptop so I can use it for trickier sites.
Also would like to know how to make jaws not say blank, blank, blank,
over and over when arrowing down a page in IE 9.
Thanks in advance.

If it came with IE 9 already installed my information is that you're
not going to be able to roll it back to IE 8. Sorry to tell you that
as the saying goes.

I got a new Dell Win 7 laptop recently and it came with IE 9. On my
previous laptop I have constantly rolled it back to IE 8 which is a
royal pain but can be done. But on the new one there was not an IE 8
to roll back to. When I searched on the Microsoft site it said there
was IE 8 for XP but I did not see one for Windows 7. I am using Jaws 11.
Since I still have the old laptop I have compared the same websites on
both IE 8 and 9 and 8 has more clickable links.
Can anyone tell me how to get to IE 8? How to remove the IE 9 and
replace it with 8? Where to find the Win 7 version of IE 8 to download?
And last but not least, how can I keep it from constantly installing
IE 9 every week?
I have been through the windows updates but can’t find any place to
click to prevent the IE 9 from re-installing itself.
I thought I could live with IE 9 but with Jaws 11 it is almost
impossible.
Another very bothersome problem with the IE 9 is that when I go down
the page line by line looking for something specific it says blank
about 10 times or more before getting to the next element. I do use
the n or p or control down arrow but I am afraid it often skips over
the specific thing I am looking for.
So any help would be gratefully appreciated.
