No problem, Mike.
I have an HP laptop and at first, I kept accidentally hitting the Synaptics
Pointing Device and sending myself off into lala land.
So I asked for and received instructions from HP in turning it off.

  Mike,
If you are using Windows 7, just type "mouse" in the Search field Now,
you
will see many different screens which have various functions. In most
cases, the "Enable/Disable" function can be found under either the
Hardware
Tab or the Drivers tab. This will be a fairly common occurrence since
Windows 7 is the supporting operating system. There may be some minor
variations which are brand related but this process should work for you.
