Hi Lennie,

1. Go to My Computer for your list of drives by pressing windows key + E, &
if you are running XP tab 1 time for list view when My Computer opens.

2. Arrow to the drive to be checked, with the drive highlighted, go to its
properties. You can press alt + enter to open its properties or, press the
application key, arrow up to properties, & press enter.

3. Control + tab 1 time to the Tools tab.

4. On the Error check now button, press the spacebar.

5. Now tab a couple of times because there are a couple of checkboxes you
want to check. They are, Automatically fix file system errors, & Scan for
and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Check both these boxes, tab to the
start button, & press the spacebar.

6. You will get a message stating that blah, blah, blah & if you would like
to do this on the next restart, press enter on the yes option. Now, restart
your computer & let chk/dsk do its thing!

It can take quite some time depending on what & how much has to be repaired.
I was doing the steps on my wife's computer as I was typing them to make
sure this is all correct. Damn, am I brave! LOL LOL
Her computer went through the chk/dsk & restarted within the time it took to
type this email. Apparently there were no problems on her machine! Thank
God! Or, I would be in traction on Doctor Phil's couch! LOL, hahaha
hahaha hahaha, LOL

Hope this helps. Take care.
Mike

Subject: [Blind-Computing] How to use CHKDSK

  Hi,

I ran CHKDSK to check my hard drive and the results have found some
disk errors that need to be fixed. It suggested that I run it again
using the parameter /F. However, When do I start CHKDSK? I thought
that there was some talk about starting CHKDSK and restart the
computer? Is this the right procedure? What happens when the computer
starts? I really need some help with this and any suggestions will
  greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

  Lennie
