This would depend, most likely, on which office suite you're using.
Mine is Microsoft 2003.
I hit that combination, adjust my font to size, and that setting remains for
the duration of my writing session.
When I'm through, the font returns to my usual size, 12 point.
Hit that keystroke, arrow down, it goes in incriments of two, stop at the
size you like, hit enter, and you're set to go.
Hope this makes it clearer.

Cliff, this short cut of yours tells the size of print, but I don't see
anywhere around it where I can permanently set the size to be 14 in all
Word
Documents I type, unfortunately. It is fine for telling the size of type
in
the Word document being viewed, like you stated.

Before I start a word document, I press the combination,
This opens a drop box, allowing me to tab down to the larger font size
that I wish.
Once there, that setting is going to remain, at least as long as your
writing session may last.
I use this shortcut on a weekly basis, and really like it.

Documents
I am writing a lengthy manuscript and must follow exact
specifications. No matter what I try, I am having a problem getting
settings to stick permanently. In a Word document, when I hit control
d and go to the tab to check the settings, the font is always as I
set it, Regular is always as I set it, but I cannot get the size of
14 to stick and it keeps reverting back to 10 usually. Is there
something I can do to stop this from happening because it is a real
pain in the neck to have to always double check every document I
write and there are many of them involved, writing a book. The
1.5 line spacing and margins seem to be sticking okay, however.
Any ideas would be tremendously appreciated.
Liuda
