Personally, I find using tables in word to be awkward and tedious. My solution is to go to excel and open a new worksheet; go to the table in word select all and copy (Control a, Control c); then paste this into to the excel workbook you have opened. The same table you had in word will appear in the columns in your excel worksheet. I find an excel table far easier to use then a word table.
