In fact you can't use Jaws with AHC. You must start NVDA instead, or use
SAPI.
As already pointed out, that's because of keyboard hook. Many games
don't properely work with Jaws.
If you want to use arrow keys, you must always press insert+3 before you
can press an arrow key. Of course it becomes quickly annoying in menus,
and totally unplayable afterwards.
You could turn on sleep mode to avoid that problem, but then Jaws won't
speak while being in the game. Since the game isn't self-voiced, it
isn't a solution either.
Sleep mode is highly discouraged by FS, but it works well for
self-voiced games, TopSpeed 3 for example.
IN short, the Jaws option in the menu is completely useless, as you
can't really use it.
The developer of AHC is probably using NVDA and totally unaware of the
Jaws problem...
Anyway, some people say that even in sleep mode they encounter
reactiveness slowing down. Myself I never have had that problem.
And anyway again, even with games that have overcomed the keyboard hook
problem, it doesn't always work great. Myself I never have ahd any
problem, but some people speak about reactiveness slowing down, or key
that stay virtually held down long time after they released them.
Observed for example with crazy party.
So, as soon as you have problems with jaws in a game, you should switch
to NVDA without asking further questions.
