Hi,
With the number of wannabee developers we have who release applications
that might be better described as toys rather than games, I can
certainly understand your frustrations. On the other hand, it is that
sort of comment that cause the genuine developers to want to turn that
around and say "get lost back at ya". Just because we have a few loose
knots doesn't mean we should tar all new developers with the same brush.
They've announced their presence, and to me that suggests confidence. It
may well be that they don't yet have a website, for the simple reason
there's nothing to put up at the moment.
Personally, I'm looking forward to see what these guys have in store for us.
Remember guys. game development costs a lot of time, energy, patience,
and money. First you have to design the game. Figure out what sounds and
music you'll need. Figure out if you want human actors/narration. Try
and obtain those materials (which, believe you me, if they're new and
have no previous ground to work from, will cost an arm and a leg, likely
meaning a lot of time will be spent saving up). Possibly program the
game engine, and then the mechanics for that specific game.
If the name of the enterprise is simply an alias for a single person,
that could further complicate the situation. They may have a family, a
daytime job, health problems, you just don't know the background.
Whatever the situation, unless you have a dedicated team, making audio
games is a tricky endeavour which requires a lot of planning and budgeting.
It took me two months just to develop a simple arcade game like River
Raiders, and believe it or not, most of that time was spent with
recording acting/narration sessions and editing the best takes, and
putting appropriate effects on the finished material. And when I look
back on it now, the only thing I'm really proud of with River Raiders is
the water environment layering. Oh, and of course the successful
eradication of the ridiculous irrational terror of the Meewah sound that
I somehow acquired during childhood...Yes folks. You now know where
meewah came from!
Cheers,
Damien.

Did the developer give where suggestions should be sent, or did I miss
something?
If you think you're finished, you! really! are! finished!!

I'd like an RPG with more choice of how the game progresses, and more
tactics in battle than just spamming the enemy with spells and falling
asleep on the enter key, lol.

One like Toom hunter, only you get to smash giant wasps with a huge

an astech temple style game where you have to run through tunnels
looking for treasure?

Hi,
Myself apart from the likes of swamp when I could see I liked
games like elite and such titles. We haven’t got anything in
that genre at all so it would be really nice to see it tackled.

Hello all,
Following a recent post on this mailing list, asking where all
of the audio game developers have gone off to, we thought this
would be a great opportunity to introduce Ebon sky studios. We
are a new audio games development team whose goal is to create
immersive role-playing games for the blind community. Our focus,
here at Ebon Sky Studios, is to tell immersive stories, combined
with exploration and solid battle mechanics.
We have been working on a set of game development tools over the
past two years and are starting production on our first audio
game title: Crimson Eclipse.
The Ebon Sky Studios team are very interested in what you, the
community, might have to say on the subjects of storytelling and
game play. We look forward to having a long and fruitful
relationship with all of you. Questions/comments/suggestions can
be sent to us at: [email protected]
<mailto:[email protected]>
Sincerely,
The Ebon Sky Studios team
