I don't know the exact number needed. What I do when I am replaying the game is: 1. I sell all the goblin items that I don't want to keep 2. I walk away from the blacksmith for a moment 3. I walk back to the blacksmith and start talking to him. If I have sold enough items to him, he will say "thank you" and offer me a special weapon. If I have not sold enough items to him, I will go back to get some more from the mines.
