Wait, seriously? You have to go to the next city and then backtrack? I
really don't remember having to do this before, but I've been all over
the north part a few times and nothing has triggered.
I'll try this, but it sure seems counterintuitive. Then again, I suppose
if I didn't know there was more to the story, I might move on, too.

durr hills so you can reach Mechimo city. Once there, go into the
market place and talk to the person in there about Exhcan. Exit the
market place and battle the people that attack you.
Once that’s done, fly back to Brightenburg. Go the north part of the
city until you find Sangora. Help her get to the house in the east
part of the city and battle her. Then you can advance the story.

It sounds like what you need to do is go back into the north part of
the city and find the piano player again. Once you find her and take
her back to her house, the story will progress. I think all you have
to do is walk a ways into the north part of the city and that should
trigger the next part. Good luck!
